About the artist
The sheer wonder of creation is what compels me to make art. Seeing eyes and a face come alive with each added pencil stroke, is magical every time. Whether it is an animal or a human subject on my drawing board, I have a conversation with them about their state of mind. Some look pensive and sometimes bring me to tears, others have a twinkle in their eye that makes me smile. The colour intensity and flexibility of pastel pencils and soft pastels enables me to translate these emotions into a realistic and lasting memory of that special someone.
Pascale Vanbutsele
About my art
I make realistic handmade paintings of dogs, people and other animals using pastel pencils and dry pastel sticks.
Pastel is an art medium in the form of a stick or pencil, consisting of powdered pigment and a binder. The pigments used in pastels are similar to those used to produce some other coloured visual arts media, such as oil paints. Pastels have been used by artists since the Renaissance.
An artwork made using pastels is called a pastel drawing if there is no background or a pastel painting when the paper is fully covered with a background.

ART IS FROM THE HEART
When you buy something from an artist, you buy more than a work of art.
You buy many hours of experimenting, starting over and over again, months of searching and a moment of happiness.
So you don't just buy something, you buy a piece of heart and soul ...
A little bit of someone's life!
